Dental Tourism: How to Prepare for Your Trip to Turkey
Dental tourism to Turkey is an established, well-worn path. Hundreds of thousands of international patients have made the trip, and the logistics are well understood. But preparation makes the difference between a smooth experience and a stressful one. This practical guide covers everything you need to do before, during and after your dental trip to Turkey.
Before You Travel
Get Your Records Together
Your Turkish dental clinic will need to assess your dental situation before confirming a treatment plan. Gather any recent dental X-rays (panoramic OPG and periapical X-rays are most useful), any existing dental records or treatment history, and photographs of your smile — front view, side profile and close-up. WhatsApp or email these to the clinic before your trip for a preliminary assessment.
Get a CT Scan if Needed
For implant treatment, a 3D CBCT (cone beam computed tomography) scan provides the most detailed information about bone volume and anatomy. Many Turkish clinics include this on arrival at no extra cost, but some patients prefer to have it done at home and bring the data. CBCT scanning at private imaging centres typically costs €80–€200.
Confirm Your Treatment Plan in Writing
Before committing to travel, ensure you have a written treatment plan specifying every procedure, the materials to be used (implant brand and type, crown material, veneer material), the number of teeth involved, the total cost with no hidden additions, and the name of the treating dentist.
What to Pack
A soft toothbrush and interdental cleaning aids. Paracetamol and ibuprofen for post-procedure pain management. Any current medications with generic names visible. Comfortable, loose clothing. Travel documents including e-visa, passport and insurance documents. Digital copies of all medical and dental records.
During Your Trip
Take photographs of your teeth before treatment begins. Ask for all X-rays taken during treatment to be provided to you digitally. Collect full written documentation of everything done: implant batch numbers and serial numbers, crown material specifications, post-operative instructions in English. Keep your clinic coordinator’s contact number saved — they should be reachable throughout your stay.
After You Return Home
Attend your follow-up appointment with your local dentist and share your Turkish treatment records. Maintain excellent oral hygiene — implants and veneers require good home care to last their full lifespan. Contact Dr.Visor if you have any concerns about your treatment outcome — we remain your point of contact after your return. Register at drvisor.com for full pre and post-trip support.
